MEXTURES SESSIONS: @MEXTURES

We snagged a few photos from the Mextures Collective Vault for this formula tutorial. Both of these formulas were built from the film preset up, so check out our moves and try them out for yourselves!

This formula was super simple. Starting with WEATHERMAN from Dust and Dirt, I jumped from there to my adjustment tools as I wanted my film preset to do the bulk of the work on this one. F-SUPERIA provided just the right amount of exposure and contrast and toning. PEBBLE BEACH from the Intensity pack let me smooth out all of the bright white from the snow and the FIRE FIRE FIRE light leak (Voted #1 name for a Mextures overlay) blended in Exclusion mode gives me those funky blues and pinks. I use X-film overlays as if they were part of my polishing tools, and in this case, I really liked how MAUVE applied fade and dulled my colors even further. Back to the adjustment tools to tweak exposure, contrast, temperature, and last but not least, sharpness.

For this one, I started with 16MM from Grit and Grain blended in difference mode and then hopped over to adjustments where I snagged the MISTY film preset. I love this preset as it’s perfect for enhancing greens, adding fade and a bit of film-style grain. I do love this WEST CHESTER light leak for defining edges with a bit of funk. VIGNETTE from Landscape Enhance and VINTAGE from Vintage Gradients both add some mood to my image by crisping up my browns and greens and darkening my outside edges. From there it’s NAVY from X-film along with the rest of my adjustments for this adorable little piece.
