MEXTURES HIGHLIGHT: @EULALIOE_PH

Creating what he frequently refers to as visual poetry, Eulalio (eulalioe_ph) has developed a style of his own. With the combination of textures, extraordinary coloration and blurring, his images have a certain motion to them. Because Eulalio is always gracious enough to share his formulas and his process, we had a chat with him about how he developed his style and why he uses Mextures to help bring his artistic visions to fruition. My name is Eulalio and I’m from San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas in the beautiful country of Mexico. I am 24 years old and currently finishing my Business Administration degree. I love literature. I love learning music of different styles like Jazz, Rock, New Age, Classic, and much more. It's an addiction and provides me with inspiration. I enjoy nature and even moreso the wide variety, shapes and colors of flowers. I also love painting and artists like Van Gogh an Joseph W. Turner.

The art of enjoying life or the art of interpreting it to my liking (remixing as I call it) began when I was 15 years of age. I always tried to carry a camera to be able to photograph unique moments and landscapes, flowers and architecture. With the passage of time I became interested in mixing photography with digital manipulation and trying to make my photos look like vintage or more surreal paintings with the aim of finding new forms of expression.

HOW HAS SOCIAL MEDIA PLAYED A ROLE IN YOUR WORK?

Social media has helped a lot because of the ability to interact with other artists. For people to enjoy your creations and photographs is something great and with people from all over the world. That reinforces my desire to leave the "everyday" and try to find new forms of art and representations of life.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

I do not have a definite style. I just know that I love experimenting, distorting and creating new interpretations. When looking at an image I want for it to feel like you are reading poetry. My goal is rather to be a visual poet who plays with reality and creates new meanings and sometimes magnifying and appreciating what nature gives us as if it were a homage.

WHAT DO YOU WANT VIEWERS TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR WORK?

With my photographs and "Remixes" I try to teach the world to enjoy nature and I like to portray how my eyes and heart interpret it - literally doing it through manipulation. Or simply respecting the "real" scene and adding a touch of texture.

WHAT DOES YOUR EDITING PROCESS GENERALLY LOOK LIKE?

The first thing I do is imagine what I want to represent, like synthesizing a song in a photo or remix. After creating, distorting and having the new "Visual Poetry", the next thing I do is sync from my computer to my phone to have better quality files. Next comes the final touch, and that final touch gives the image even more poetry.

HOW SPECIFICALLY DO YOU USE MEXTURES IN THAT PROCESS?

My final step is to open the Photo/Remix in Mextures which contains infinite possibilities for playing with textures, colors, filters, etc. Mextures is the perfect complement to my "Visual Poetry". Mextures also allows you to save all of your combinations of textures as formulas and that’s fantastic. I have more than 70 formulas. What madness!

CAN YOU SHARE SOME OF THOSE FORMULAS?

Some of my favorite formulas are the following:

(I usually name my formulas with the abbreviation “VP” which stands for Visual Poetry)

SP-X1 - LARXJAK - Gives your photos warm, sepia tones plus a touch of cool texture.

VP-X77 – HTVRYAQ - Lighting effects and textures that together give a vintage touch.

VP-X70 – WKGULMT - This formula enchants me. It gives a greenish touch and appearance of a painting to the photography.

VP-X37 – LGNMTRQ - Provides great blue and purple tones with a light touch of grain.

VP-X11 - DDKKDNQ - A mysterious touch + grain effect + shadow equals a poetic image.

DO YOU FEEL LIKE MEXTURES OFFERS ANYTHING UNIQUE TO YOUR EDITING PROCESS?

Of course! From the ease of saving formulas, the multiple forms of fusion and the possibility to move from layer to layer allowing you to discover new results. There are no limits on combinations or results. For my style it is a perfect complement. I love working with the textures!

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN DEVELOPING YOUR HOBBY?

One of my biggest challenges is being able to simply find my style and what I want to represent. I do not tend to notice the acceptance or lack thereof, but sometimes it is interesting to hear the critiques of others to keep improving.

Another challenge that I would like to undertake is to be able to sell some of my creations or to do photo shoot since I currently only take photos and create remixes as a passion and hobby.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PIECE TO CREATE SO FAR AND WHAT MAKES IT YOUR FAVORITE?

From my creations, I love the image where I combine the blur and distortions effects and then add butterflies and fire. It’s something sensational. For me it evokes a metaphorical form of passion. I may not have an absolute favorite but I love my Flower Series where I add a multitude of effects and titled the images with songs that I love. It is also a way for people who visit my page to become curious about new music.
